Tonsillectomy Two Weeks Out

I am finally at two weeks after my tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. At this point I feel great, except for one thing…

I have what I can only determine is scab tissue at the back of my throat where my tonsils were removed. This scab tissue is in a bad spot and is causing me some major discomfort. This morning I was dry heaving as the scabs were bothering my gag reflex. Oh how I loath the feeling of gagging and dry heaving, and I am sure that most of you can relate. If it weren’t for this scab tissue I would say that I am just about normal after two weeks. That’s pretty damn good for having a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy two weeks ago.

I read online forums about people who have had tonsillectomies. I found that some people would eat toast in order to help scrape the scabs out of the back of their throats, and they said that it actually worked. I spoke with my doctor about the scab tissue, and the awful feeling in the back of my throat, and he said that it is normal to have this feeling two weeks after surgery. I told him about what I had read regarding eating toast and he instructed me NOT to do this as it would scrape the back of my throat thus making things worse. He did say that I can take my pain medication to help alleviate the symptoms which is actually working.

I just want this feeling to go away.

Have something to say? Go for it!
