Tonsillectomy Three Weeks Out
December 5, 2009 at 10:55 pmI am just about fully recovered except for one issue, but ironically this issue seems to be causing me the most trouble out of my entire recovery. Here is an entry I just posted to steadyhealth.com which explains my dilemma.
I had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy done on November 11, 2009. I am now on three weeks and three days recovery and my throat looks like it’s almost fully recovered. There is only one issue remaining which I’ll explain below.
My problem is that I still have this feeling in the back of my throat that is not going away. It almost feels like there is a piece of food, or piece of hair, on either side of my throat where my tonsils were. It is very uncomfortable and I have gagged and thrown up from it multiple times already. When I go to sleep at night my throat is so dry and I wake up with white stuff on the spots where my tonsils were removed. I would think at this point that my scabs should be gone. As I go through the day and eat, the white stuff goes away, but the uncomfortable feeling remains in the back of my throat. I don’t feel it when I am breathing and only feel it when I swallow. When I go to sleep the white stuff comes back, and I do it all over again the next day. I am wondering whether I have scar tissue where my tonsils were removed which this dead tissue would act as though something were caught in the back of my throat. I am worried that this feeling will never go away.
I am hoping that someone else out there has, or is, going through the same experience I am going through, and has some information they can provide me as I am losing hope at this point. I really hope that I don’t have to go through the rest of my life with this feeling as I just can’t deal with it. I went to see my doctor two days again for my three week post-op follow-up and he said to give it another 2-3 weeks and the feeling should go away. We shall see.

Tonsillectomy Two Weeks Out
November 26, 2009 at 8:14 amI am finally at two weeks after my tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. At this point I feel great, except for one thing…
I have what I can only determine is scab tissue at the back of my throat where my tonsils were removed. This scab tissue is in a bad spot and is causing me some major discomfort. This morning I was dry heaving as the scabs were bothering my gag reflex. Oh how I loath the feeling of gagging and dry heaving, and I am sure that most of you can relate. If it weren’t for this scab tissue I would say that I am just about normal after two weeks. That’s pretty damn good for having a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy two weeks ago.
I read online forums about people who have had tonsillectomies. I found that some people would eat toast in order to help scrape the scabs out of the back of their throats, and they said that it actually worked. I spoke with my doctor about the scab tissue, and the awful feeling in the back of my throat, and he said that it is normal to have this feeling two weeks after surgery. I told him about what I had read regarding eating toast and he instructed me NOT to do this as it would scrape the back of my throat thus making things worse. He did say that I can take my pain medication to help alleviate the symptoms which is actually working.
I just want this feeling to go away.

CSS Image Replacement
November 20, 2009 at 4:22 pmThe topic of CSS image replacement has been an area of contention for quite some time now. As technology advances we develop better techniques on how to handle the text equivalent, or replacement, of images using CSS. What is CSS image replacement you ask? There is a brilliant answer which can be found in an article written by Chris Coyier. Chris talks about CSS image replacement and gives an array of different techniques on how to implement CSS image replacement on your projects.
Tonsillectomy – Days 3, 4, and 5
November 15, 2009 at 7:30 pmI didn’t sleep well at all last night. The fever, combination of medication (I actually tried adding my heart medications to the medications I was taking) and condition of my throat kept me up all night.
I am trying to write this post on day #6 and can’t remember most of what happened on days 3 and 4, my apologies. The only think I can remember is having a fever ranging from around 99.6 – 102, but having the fever completely wipe me out. I felt so out of it, I wasn’t hungry at all, and could not sleep right. When I finally reached the evening of day 3 and my fever had persisted I called the doctor again. The doctor explained that he wanted to prescribe me an antibiotic, which I am guessing would be for some type of lovely infection that had been getting worse and worse after the surgery.
Antibiotic
My wife picked up this prescription for me and I took my first dose before bed that evening. An hour or two later I start sweating and it actually feels like my body is trying to beat off the fever. I am taking a very low grade antibiotic, but it’s strange how some medications take effect so quickly.
Stomach pains and diarrhea
I actually starting getting some bad bouts of diarrhea around midnight last night and they are accompanied by gas pains in my stomach. I know I have been swallowing lot’s of air when drinking water, but I think it has something to do with one of the pain medications I am taking.
My diarrhea and stomach pains continue into day 4, but for some reason I don’t stop taking the pain medication I believe is the culprit till day 5.
In speaking with the doctor last night I failed to mention that he wants to
I’ll have to get back to you regarding these days folks as they really beat me down.
